11952 Pecan Grove Court, Oak Hills Place June 26, 2007

This residence is a real anomaly in the Oak Hills Place subdivision off of Highland Road. This is the description from Karen Kingsley’s Buildings of Louisiana:

John Gonce House
1966, MacKie and Kamrath

Houston architects MacKie and Kamrath interpreted Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian designs for the southern climate in this single-story brick house. The floor plan radiates from the entry, separating the living and dining spaces from the bedroom wing. A flat roof extending beyond the wall line shades the horizontal window along one side; a flat-roofed carport on the opposite side of the house carries the horizontal lines outward to create the expansive composition typical of Wright’s work. Construction materials of brick and wood are in the warm, earthy colors favored by this architecture firm.

this house might make a lover of mid century modern out of me after all.

This is my parents house. It is where my sister and I grew up along with our dachsund, Weenie. Unfortunately the photo doesn’t capture the floor to ceiling windows on the back of the house that overlook the pool and the beautiful gardens that my parents have developed over the years.

    It is a great house.

If this house ever goes for sale…I would need to know immediately. I went by a few months ago and was amazed at the upkeep and style for BR. Great Frank L. interpretation.
    Enjoy,
