Glasgow at Whitehaven December 4, 2007

Glasgow at Whitehaven e, originally uploaded by RedStickModern.

This is only a small portion of a sprawling Modern house in the Southdowns neighborhood. (I apologize if this isn’t Southdowns proper, I’m not really sure what the names of the neighborhoods are in this area–help by way of clarification would certainly be appreciated!)

Anyway. This beautiful home acts as a sort of gateway to gorgeous MCM homes located on Knollwood, just off of Whitehaven. There’s a veritable enclave of them located on this dead-end street–They are so private and serene that I feel too much like an interloper stopping and taking photographs. If any RSM readers have the boules, though, I’d be happy to post your images of them.

Thanks to RSM reader James for the tip!

FOR SALE – 524 S. River Oaks September 25, 2007

524 S. River Oaks e, originally uploaded by RedStickModern.

Located at the corner of S. River Oaks and Lonita in Broadmoor, this lover-ly ranch is for sale! I called and the asking price is $190k, but I don’t know, I think they’re overpricing for their market–it’s not spring of 2006, you know. There was a great article in Business Report about how far a dollar can go in the Broadmoor/Sherwood area, and you can read it here.

I’m thinking… the burglar bars gone. A nice pale gray over the brick, a darker slate gray on the wood trim and siding, and an awesomely contrasting front entrance–the front doors yellow or maybe a seafoam green. Landscaping, how about pea gravel on either side of the walkway with small evergreens here and there? Of course, those sad little bushes have got to go. What are your ideas?

If you’re interested, send me an email and I can get you the owner’s contact information, or take a look at this one for yourself! More pictures here.

This gorgeous rambler is situated at the corner of W. Fairway Drive and Brentwood, near the Baton Rouge Country Club. The paneled exterior walls with the high, thin clerestory windows lend a feeling of reserve to the home, though the garage doors are just a few feet from the street.

This unique home is located off of Nicholson, between the north gates of LSU and downtown. While it has the appearance of a church, it was definitely built as a residence. It’s a dramatic statement on an otherwise ho-hum street.
