This house is just around the corner from the fantastic Carolyn Sue houses. I’m slowly (and by slowly, I mean I’ve spent one Saturday morning) starting to inventory the most interesting houses in Broadmoor,
and am looking forward to adding more buildings to the list. For those that are looking to buy, there are some great houses for sale in the area at very reasonable prices.

Yet ANOTHER amazing house on Carolyn Sue. Check out that exaggerated cross gable roof: see the front gable facing the street, then the wings that just out of the rear on either side? That’s a cross-gable. The full length windows hidden behind the brick wall are pretty dramatic. Mr. and Mrs. RSM are looking to purchase a home in the near future, and we’re saddened that houses like these featured on Carolyn Sue aren’t for sale. We’ll keep plugging away, though!

Yet another fabulous home on Carolyn Sue. How awesome is that big picture window–doesn’t it look like a big roll-up garage door? The use of stone as a cladding material, that’s pretty unusual here in Baton Rouge. And the angled stone column at the front door, boy, that’s snazzy! This is not a house that is going to be confused for your neighbors.

This tantalizing scrap is the second house that caught my eye on Carolyn Sue. I was lucky enough to have the chance to talk to the current owner for a few minutes, and his enthusiasm for his home was delightful. He said that he’s been working on the place for around two years and that there are still some things he’d like to do, including removing a non-historic brick and iron fence (not pictured).
What I really like about this house (besides the sweeping front gable), is the use of the CMU as an evident building material–it’s not hidden behind a coat of paint, nor is it plastered over to give a smooth finish. It is what it is, and is even emphasized by the blocks that are removed from the front wall. The curtain wall of windows that opens up into the back yard is just barely visible to the right of the entry courtyard. Lovely!

Three bedrooms, two baths, lots of built-ins, a really grand brick wall with inset fireplace, and one of the best locations in Baton Rouge help justify the $2000/month rental price.
